Vivo has quietly launched a new smartphone in its home market. Dubbed as Vivo Y5s, the new smartphone is essentially the same smartphone as Vivo Y19 that was recently introduced in Thailand. Vivo Y5s also shares almost all specifications with Vivo U3 that debuted in China last month. The only difference between Vivo Y5s and Vivo U3 is the SoC. The Vivo Y5s uses MediaTek's Helio P65 SoC, whereas the Vivo U3 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC.
Vivo Y5s Features
The Vivo Y5s is an excellent smartphone when it comes to performance with a powerful processor and large RAM, it provides a smooth experience while playing heavy games and multitasking. Other options like fingerprint sensor, Gorilla Glass, and the best front camera make it worth buying. Moreover, the absence of a full HD display is a disappointment but overall a suitable option if images and performance are your priorities.
Display
The Vivo Y5s display is 5.5-inch IPS LCD HD (720 x 1,280 pixels) and has a Corning Gorilla Glass on top. Inside, there is a 1.5GHz octa-core Cortex A53 processor upon the MediaTek MT6750 chipset included by 4GB of RAM. The device boots on the Android v6.0 (Marshmallow) OS and is embedded with a fingerprint sensor at the front side.
Camera, and Storage Option
The smartphone is well designed with a metal body that measures 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.5 and weighs 154 grams. It is available in four different colors - Crown Gold, Matte Black, and Energetic Blue. Coming to the camera, the Vivo V5s sports a 13MP primary camera that captures high-quality images. A superb 20MP front camera (Exmor RS sensor - 2.0f aperture) is present which outputs sharp selfie images. In terms of storage, the device features an internal space of 64GB which can be increased up to 128GB through a microSD card. For more storage, one can make use of OTG cable.
Connectivity and Battery
On the connectivity option, the smartphone offers a wide range of options such as dual SIM, 4G (supports Indian bands), 3G, 2G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS with A-GPS and micro USB 2.0. The smartphone is equipped with a 3,000mAh Li-ion battery which renders a good amount of talk time for long hours.

The dual-SIM (Nano) Vivo Y5s runs on FunTouch OS 9.2, based on Android 9 Pie. The phone features a 6.53-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,340 pixels) display and is powered by octa-core MediaTek Helio P65 SoC, paired with 6GB of RAM and Mali-G52 GPU. The Vivo Y5s packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.
On the imaging front, the Vivo Y5s features a triple rear camera setup that houses a 16-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.78 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and 2-megapixel macro shooter with an f/2.4 aperture. There is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter on the front with an f/2.0 aperture.
Among other specifications, you will get a rear fingerprint sensor, face unlock support, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB 2.0, and 4G VoLTE support, and 128GB of onboard storage on the Vivo Y5s. The phone measures 162.15x76.47x8.89mm and weigh 193 grams.
Vivo Y5s Price In China
Vivo Y5s carries a price tag of CNY 1,498 (roughly Rs. 15,000) for the lone 6GB + 128GB storage variant. The phone will be offered in Blue, Black, and Green colors with a gradient finish. It is expected to go on sale in the coming days. There is no word on the launch of the Vivo Y5s outside China at this point, however, we might see the release of Vivo Y19 in some global markets.
