The film follows a group of teenagers who are forced to protect their neighborhood in the Bronx when a gathering of vampires invades. It stars Sarah Gadon, Chris Redd, The Kid Mero, Method Man, Shea Whigham, Vladimir Caamano, Jaden Michael, Gregory Diaz IV, Gerald W. Jones III, and Coco Jones. It is scheduled to be released on October 2, 2020, by Netflix.
On August 14, 2018, it was announced that Broadway Video and Caviar had recently begun production on Vampires vs. the Bronx, a film written and directed by Osmany Rodriguez. Executive producers were expected to include Lorne Michaels, Erin David, Bert Hamelinck, and Michael Sagol. Sarah Gadon, Chris Redd, The Kid Mero, Method Man, Shea Whigham, Vladimir Caamano, Jaden Michael, Gregory Diaz IV, Gerald W. Jones III, and Coco Jones were also announced to star in the film. Vampires vs the Bronx has been acquired by Netflix and is set for release globally on October 2, 2020, Screen Rant has learned. Expect Vampires vs. the Bronx as part of the 2020 "Netflix and Chills" lineup of Halloween-themed content. The horror-comedy comes from director Oz Rodriguez (A.P. Bio, Saturday Night Live) and tells the story of a group of young friends from the Bronx fighting to save their neighborhood from a band of vampires.
Rodriguez, who co-wrote the Vampires vs. the Bronx screenplay with Blaise Hemingway. The Movie, The Settlers of Catan tells us that after years of directing episodes of SNL, he wanted to tell a more personal story. He continues
The cast of Vampires vs the Bronx includes Jaden Michael, Gerald W. Jones III, Gregory Diaz IV, Sarah Gadon, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Shea Whigham, Coco Jones, Joel “The Kid Mero” Martinez, Chris Redd, Vladimir Caamaño, Jeremie Harris, Adam David Thompson, Judy Marte, Richard Bekins, and Zoe Saldana. Rodriguez explains, "it was important for us to find the right people for the roles.
When it came to portraying the neighborhood we wanted as many New York actors as possible. As a Dominican I was excited to work with so many great Dominican actors like Jaden, Kid Mero, Vlad, Judy, and the newcomer Zoe Saldaña," Rodriguez adds. Saldana has a brief cameo in the movie. "It was a challenging shoot but our young trio of vampire killers Jaden, Gregory and Gerald made it look easy."
Oz wants us to remind you to "protect ya neck!" and as for the young vampire-hunting stars of the feature, Gregory Diaz IV - who plays Luis - describes his character as a "horror-loving skateboarding nerd who’s the deep knowledge of vampires helps him and his crew to try and save The Bronx." Luis' friend Bobby is a "regular kid from The Bronx," says star Gerald W. Jones III. "Like many African - American boys he’s conflicted with gang activity and realizing it’s his detriment," he adds.
Rounding out the trio and leading them is Miguel, who Jaden Michael describes as "a confident leader." Michael continues, "although he might not know everything, he knows what he wants. His ambition and courage drive him to do some outlandish things. But ultimately, he's got to get the vampires out of the Bronx.
