Radhe Shyam is an upcoming Indian romantic drama film written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar with Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. Presented by Krishnam Raju under Gopi Krishna Movie Pvt Ltd, it is produced by Vamsi Krishna Reddy, Pramod Uppalapati, Praseedha Uppalapati and Bhushan Kumar under their respective banners of UV Creations and T-Series. Filmed simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, the film will be released along with dubbed versions in Tamil and Malayalam.
The first look of Prabhas’ 20th film was expected in March-April 2020, but COVID-19 lockdown and the technical crew had to adapt to work from home forced the team to defer unveiling the poster. Radhe Shyam has onboard actors Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Priyadarshi, Murali Sharma, Sasha Chettri, and Kunaal Roy Kapur among others and will be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. The crew includes cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, production designer R Raveender, editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, and visual effects supervisor R C Kamalakannan. The film was launched on 5 September 2018 tentatively titled as #Prabhas20. Veteran Bollywood actress Bhagyashree is cast in a crucial role in the film. The film is a romantic drama set in the 1970's Europe. Principal photography commenced on 6 October 2018. Filming took place in Hyderabad, Italy, and Georgia, after which it was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. It is reported that a huge set is being constructed in Hyderabad for filming to be resumed in August 2020.
First impressions suggest an epic love story set in Europe, as is suggested by the colosseum in the background. Even the mood the first look is going for is something more serious than just a light rom-com. And as the title suggests, Prabhas’ character will go by Shyam with Pooja Hegde being Radha, hinting at an epic Krisna-Radha like a love story.
Even earlier, the first announcement poster was being dissected with fans suggesting it is a love story with a time travel backdrop given the clock covered with flowers at its center. Other fans, however, seem to think that the film will be another action film from their star. In terms of a release date, the poster reveals nothing more than “in theatres 2021”.
And as expected, given the superstardom of Prabhas, one of India’s few pan-Indian stars, the film will release in four languages—Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam. Directed by Radha Krishna Kumar, who made the much-loved Jil, the mega-budget film also stars Pooja Hegde. The film is being shot by Manoj Paramahamsa who shot classics like Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya.
His previous film Saaho, made at a rumored cost of more than Rs.300 crore, went on to become one of the year’s highest grosser despite the middling to negative reviews it received.
