The Big Bull is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language biographical crime film directed by Kookie Gulati of Prince (April 9, 2010) fame and produced by Ajay Devgn, Anand Pandit, and Vikrant Sharma, Kumar Mangat Pathak. The storyline is a retelling of stockbroker Harshad Mehta's life involving his financial crimes over a period of 10 years, from 1980 to 1990.
It stars Abhishek Bachchan as Mehta. Nikita Dutta and Ileana D'Cruz play supporting roles. The principal shoot began on 16 September 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film will not be released theatrically and will stream worldwide on Disney+Hotstar
In 2018, it was reported that Ajay Devgn will produce the film with Abhishek Bachchan to play the lead role. The film is directed by Kookie Gulati of Prince (April 9, 2010) fame and shows the financial crimes and life of Harshad Mehta. Nikita Dutta and Ileana D'Cruz were brought in to play supporting roles. The shooting commenced on 16 September 2019
Veteran Producer Anand Pandit who is co-producing Abhishek Bachchan starrer ; The Big Bull' along with Ajay Devgn says an OTT release for 'Big Bull' was definitely not his 'first choice'.
I believe in the big theatre experience. It is the ultimate for any cinema lover. But, in the challenging times that we live in, we are all learning to adapt and more importantly, experiment. An experiment to understand what the future holds for films and their audiences. I would say this release is a new evolutionary tool in the growth of cinema and its audiences.
It is wonderful to collaborate with Disney+ Hotstar and I am quite sure the audiences will enjoy this novel way of showcasing our films," said Anand Pandit on the decision of releasing the thriller on OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar that was announced by the platform. The Big Bull' is one of the films in the OTT platform's roster to be released this year.
Not one to look at things from just one prism, Anand Pandit says it also gives Hindi films an immediate reach with international audiences in newer markets. "With an OTT release, The Big Bull will reach newer markets and newer international audiences."
He adds that the theatrical experience will be back soon, "Theatrical experience will be back soon and that I assure you. In the meantime, let's not stop enjoying the one thing we are passionate about - films," he smiles and signs off. The Big Bull Release Date
Although the country is in the phase of the unlock, the novel coronavirus pandemic is still there growing. Hence to ensure the safety of the people, the government has decided to keep the theatres shut until the next orders. Considering this, the film industry has now turned towards the OTT platforms like Disney Plus Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, etc., to release their films digitally during the ongoing lockdown.
Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan and AyushmannKhurrana starrer ‘GulaboSitabo’ was released on Amazon Prime video in June 2020 and following the same several other movies are also going to be released soon on various OTT platforms. Joining the league in the latest is Abhishek Bachchan starrer ‘The Big Bull’ which is going to have its digital release on Disney Plus Hotstar.
However, the release date of the film is yet to announced. The movie is directed by Kookie Gulati and produced by Ajay Devgn and AnandPandit. The star cast of the film includes Ileana D’Cruz, Nikita Dutta, Soham Shah, and others. During the Disney Plus Hotstar’s virtual press conference on Monday, Abhishek Bachchan revealed the new poster of ‘The Big Bull’.
The first look of the movie was released earlier in January 2020 with the tagline “The man who sold dreams to India”. Talking about the story, the film is believed to be inspired by the Harshad Mehta securities scam of 1992. Speaking about the story Jr Bachchan called The Big Bull’ rags to riches story and said that the story isn’t historical and revolves in the late 1980s and early 1990s in Mumbai.
He further added that the story has a message that if you are ambitious and work in the correct direction then you will achieve your goal for sure.
